Founded in the 1970's as WCCG, Canisius College Radio is one of the older student clubs on campus. It is open to ALL current Canisius students who are interested in learning how to become a DJ. The station is located in the basement of the Student Center SC-014. Currently the station is managed by an executive board of undergraduate students. The present co-general managers are Patrick Engasser ' 09 and Nick Aldrich ' 10. The Faculty Advisor is Mr. Jamie O'Neil, Assistant Professor of Digital Media Arts, Communication Studies Department.
WCCG started out as an FM radio station, but lost its license several years
ago for not meeting FCC requirements. Since then Canisius College Radio has
been broadcasting through the campus television network on channel 10. After
parting ways with terrestrial radio, the station lost its voice and was forced
to go through a rebuilding phase.
Over the last three years, the idea of becoming an on line station has been
considered and reconsidered. In January of 2008 it has become a reality.
Thanks to live365.com, Canisius Radio has been born again.
The name of the station was recently changed from WCCG to The WIRE to signify a new beginning for the club. The rebirth of the club as an on line station is a huge step towards restoring the voice of Canisius College Radio. Streaming on the web would not have been possible without the financial assistance of the Canisius Student Senate and the tech support of the Canisius ITS Department. It has been a long journey, but after years of peaks and valleys Canisius College Radio is back. At last The WIRE has earned its place in the world of internet radio.
