Competition Rules and Judging Criteria

Animation & Video Shorts

Judging Criteria:

  • Technical Quality - videography, audio, editing, effects, graphics, lighting, motion
  • Creative Quality - originality of concept, imaginative and competent use of medium, visual appeal

Requirements:

  • All work must be original.
  • Work must be submitted on DVDs or CDs
  • All entrants must be residents of Western New York or Southern Ontario or currently studying at a university in that area. Western New York counties include: Niagara, Erie, Orleans, Genesee, Wyoming, Chatauqua, Cattaragus, and Allegany
  • Persons who work as professionals in the field of film, television, video production, or multimedia may enter the contest, however, they must have had a significant role in creating the entry and list all other contributors.
  • Studio-produced talk shows, interviews, instructional/informational presentations, or similar programs produced for cable, broadcast, in-house, or public access television DO NOT qualify for entry in the festival
  • Videos produced as projects or assignments for college or high school classes are eligible BUT this information must be noted on along with the entry information.
  • Videos and Animations must have been produced within the past 2 years of the festival date (May 24-26, 2007).
  • DVDs and CDs must be clearly labeled with all the submission information.
  • Entries and submission information must be sent together in the same envelope and postmarked no later than May 7, 2007 (NO EXCEPTIONS)
  • DVDs and CDs will not be returned
  • Winning videos and animations will be announced at the 2007 Buffalo Digital Media Festival Awards Ceremony, Saturday, May 26, 2007.
  • Submission of your video or animation to the 2007 Buffalo Digital Media Festival grants Canisius College permission to show the work at the festival and to have the work reproduced, in either whole or part, for educational or promotional purposes, unless you request otherwise in writing with the submission of your entry

Web and Interactive Design

Judging Criteria:

  • Technical Quality - standards compliant, graphics properly optimized, accessible information
  • Design - visual appeal, creativity, originality
  • Usability - ease of site navigation, optimization of graphics, download time, interactivity

  • All work must be original.
  • One still of your website or interactive must also be submitted. It can be mailed along with submission or emailed to: dmafest@canisius.edu
  • Work must be submitted on a CD or as a web address (we are not responsible if the link does not work).

Awards

Awards for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place will be given for each category. In addition, a future star award will be given to the top high school submission, and a people's choice award will be given based on votes received.
